What Would a BNP Government Mean for YOU?

Part two of our BNP breakdown centres on their policies on Europe and the EU. Like before, the quote blocks are from the BNP manifesto, and our analysis is in red.

Quote:

EUROPE – back to British independence!

We are opposed to the Single European Currency, and support the overwhelming majority of the British people in their desire to keep the Pound and our traditional weights and measures.

And here is a classic example of how to manipulate your supporters; go straight in with a lie, and build the rest of the policy around it, working on the assumption that said supporters will not o the simple research required to debunk the opening statement.

Who says the ‘overwheming majority’ want to keep the Pound? There has never been a referendum on it. This is at best an estimate based on opinion polls, and at worst and out-and-out lie.

Quote:

At the same time, we are for the best possible relationship with our European neighbours and believe that the nations of Europe should be free to trade and cooperate whenever it is mutually beneficial, though without being forced into a political and economic straitjacket – political unification.

Why does Griffin think that other European countries would continue to give us favourable trade rates etc if we pull out of the EU? What would be the benefit to them?

Quote:

Accordingly, we stand for British withdrawal from the European Union. In place of the EU, we intend to aim towards greater national self-sufficiency, and to work to restore Britain’s family and trading ties with Australia, Canada and New Zealand, and to trade with the rest of the world as it suits us.

‘As it suits us’? How arrogant! The rest of the world will not want anything to do with a UK that is completely self-interested. Why would nations whose expats have been bribed – or worse – to leave the UK want to continue to trade with us at good rates?

Perhaps Mr Griffin thinks he has found a way to manufacture cars, make clothes and grow tropical fruits here in the UK?

The simple fact is, Britain is not and cannot be truly self-sufficient. Embargoing international trade, halting immigration, pulling out of the EU and refusing to give international aid would all contribute to a very poor image of the UK.

Quote:

Following our withdrawal from the EU, the BNP will use the £43 million per day net contribution Britain at present makes to the European Union to fund many far more useful projects at home.

It is not specified what these ‘far more useful projects at home’ are. It is worrying how many BNP supporters will hand over their money without asking these basic questions.
